Leuven, one of the most popular destinations in Europe

24/02/2022

This year, Ljubljana (Slovenia) is the winner, followed by Marbella (Spain), Amiens (France) and Plovdiv (Bulgaria). And in fifth place we find Leuven, a city in Flemish Brabant, just half an hour from Brussels.

The travel website European Best Destinations, dedicated to tourism in Europe, in collaboration with Eden Network, the European Commission's platform for sustainable tourism and the exchange of best practices, has produced a ranking of the 20 best destinations from a list of 400.  No fewer than half a million travellers from 182 countries participated in the selection and Leuven reached fifth place with 48,000 votes.

There is no doubt that fans of Leuven were won over by its cultural offer, rich heritage, numerous green spaces and its brasseries and restaurants, but also undoubtedly, as highlighted by European Best Destinations (EBD), by its commitment to sustainable development in this city where the bicycle rules supreme.

Remember that in 2020 the city of Namur was in the top 10, finishing in seventh place in the ranking.

Besides the must-sees, such as the town hall, M Leuven and St Peter's church, there are also a few hidden gems that you can discover while strolling through this welcoming city.
