American magazine Forbes has named our former Prime Minister and current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sophie Wilmès, as one of the 100 most powerful women of the past year.

This is the 17th year that the American business magazine has compiled its list of the most powerful women of the year. These women work in fields as diverse as business, politics, technology, media and the arts.

Angela Merkel is at the top of this year's ranking, followed by Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, and Kamala Harris, future Vice-President of the United States. Sophie Wilmès is in 71st place. In 2019, she entered the ranking as the first woman at the head of the Belgian government. It should be noted that she is the only Belgian on this year's list and ranks two places below Rihanna and one place above Beyoncé. It is also noteworthy that at 45, the Belgian is one of the ten youngest personalities in the ranking, with Taylor Swift the youngest and Queen Elizabeth II of England the oldest.
