Belgian banking apps amongst world's four best in 2023

12/10/2023

Want to handle your banking affairs electronically in a user-friendly way? Out of 148 financial institutions in 19 countries, you are sitting pretty with two Belgian banks.

Banking consumers are increasingly tapping their smartphones to manage their money matters. So the industry is helpfully responding by making its apps more user friendly. And on that front, Belgium leads the way according to a wide-ranging comparative study of 148 financial institutions in 19 countries by consulting firm Sia Partners. As was the case in 2022, major bank KBC again achieves bronze, closely followed by state bank Belfius, which advanced three places in 2023 compared to last year and now finishes nicely at No. 4.

So what was Sia Partners able to bring forth from our banks? You can also use the KBC app for non-financial matters, such as buying a ticket for public transport. And if a client has a problem or question, digital assistant Kate is eager to offer advice. For Belfius, the consultant particularly liked the wide range of products and services, in particular the investment platform Re=Bel, the many useful features that help clients complete their daily banking transactions efficiently, even complex ones, and finally, the quality of the so-called digital end-to-end customer flow.

As it happens, Europe is strongly represented in Sia Partners' rankings: Italy leads, Belgium is 3rd and 4th, Great Britain is 8th and the Netherlands 9th.
