Fabulous photographs at the Folon Foundation

La Hulpe

The Folon Foundation in La Hulpe is exhibiting photos made by late French photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue.

No more than half an hour outside of Brussels, the beautiful domain of the castle of La Hulpe (in the province of Walloon Brabant) is home to the Folon Foundation and its captivating exhibitions, currently including Jacques- Henri Lartigue. Moments suspendus.

The exhibition features more than 120 photographs and spans much of the 20th century, as the photographer lived from 1894 to 1986. It was only towards the end of his life that Lartigue really broke through after an exhibition in New York, but you can see his talent even in his very first pictures.

What, you might wonder, does this illustrious Frenchman have to do with the Folon Foundation? There are two ways to answer that question. The first is to attend the exhibition and find out. You will find the link hidden in plain sight. If you’re bursting with impatience, however, keep reading (but promise us to still visit the exhibition, okay?).

Lartigue and Jean-Michel Folon (a celebrated Belgian artist) were good friends and have frequently photographed each other. This includes some of the candid shots you see in the exhibition.

Come on, you 21st century girls and boys! Go see what came before you...and enjoy!
