And the Academy Award goes to ... Barco

22/02/2024

Barco wins the prestigious Scientific and Engineering Academy Award for its unrivalled laser projector in cinemas. A historic accolade for its leadership and contribution to technological advancement in the film industry.

Every year, the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the world-famous Oscar film awards in Hollywood. Now it has also rolled out the red carpet for Belgian technology company Barco, which offers stunning viewing experiences at events, in cinemas, museums ... Barco wins the prestigious Scientific and Engineering Academy Award for its pioneering laser technology, a bit of the Oscar for image and sound, so to speak. Because its Dolby Cinema sound system is also praised.

25 years of research and development by Barco has dramatically improved the cinema market on a technical level. For about a decade, its laser projector has been the only one in the world able to show 3D movies in maximum 4K screen resolution at 60 frames per second and at an exceptional brightness of no less than 60,000 lumens. Compared to the classic Xenon lamp, laser only offers advantages: wider colour palette, better contrast ratio, quasi-permanent brightness, better light dispersion, minimal image grain and 40% lower energy consumption.

All of this is music to film buffs' ears.
