Lotte Kopecky dominates in Tour

03/08/2023

Belgian cyclist Lotte Kopecky has delivered a splendid performance in the 2023 women’s Tour de France.

Kopecky, who rides for the SD Worx team, started the eight-stage race off strong: she won the first stage by more than half a minute.

In doing so, she found herself at the head of the general classification, but also leading the points and Queen of the Mountains classifications. In other words, she had the yellow jersey, the green jersey ánd the polka dot jersey.

She would have won the second stage as well if it weren’t for a flat tire. She came second in a sprint and managed to stay in the lead.

She never let go of that precious green jersey. As for yellow, she ceded it to her Dutch teammate Demi Vollering in the next-to-last stage. Her six days in yellow make her the record holder for the female Tour, which is officially called the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Did you know that this was only the second edition of this race?

After Lotte Kopecky’s performance in the Tour, all eyes are on her now for the 2023 World Championship in Glasgow.

Belgium’s dominance in cycling is thus further established. Congratulations to Lotte and to Jasper Philipsen for finishing their respective Tours in the legendary green jersey.

Congratulations also to Justine Ghekiere, Julie De Wilde, Sanne Cant, Marthe Truyen, Julie Van de Velde and Fien Delbaere, the other Belgian cyclists in the ladies’ tour.
