Elise Mertens wins the Monastir tournament
The Belgian tennis player clinched a second consecutive title in Tunisia and the eighth of her career in singles on the WTA circuit.
In Tunisia, Elise Mertens won the WTA 250 tennis tournament in Monastir, a hard-court event with $259,303 at stake.
In the final, the Belgian won against the Italian Jasmine Paolini (WTA 30) with a severe score of 6-3, 6-0 in just 1h12 of play. Elise Mertens was however trailing 3-2 before chain points without conceding anything to your opponent.
It was the first final of the Belgian N.1 since her title last year on the same ground. The Limburger thus tales the eighth title of her career. In addition to her titles at the Jasmin Open in Monastir, Elise Mertens also won in Hobart (2017 and 2018), Lugano (2018), Rabat (2018), Doha (2019) and Melbourne (2021).
Remember that most of her titles were won in doubles. Elise Mertens has 18 titles in this specialty, including 3 Grand Slams. She has recently become world number 1 in doubles again.
This great victory allows the Belgian player to re-enter the world Top 30 in singles!
