The Smurfs: international stars

Even after forty years, the cartoon series The Smurfs remains a favourite of children and adults alike in more than 100 countries around the world. There have been nine seasons and 272 episodes!

 

The blue elves were first born on paper in October 1958; since then Peyo's little characters saw their 38th album published in 2020. Today, these albums are sold in 90 countries. Nearly 35 million books have been sold in total worldwide!

The new RTBF series will continue the exciting adventures, whose playful and mischievous tone is sure to please both young audiences and their parents. Viewers will of course find Papa Smurf, flanked by his usual companions - Hefty, Jokey, Brainy, Handy, and Grouchy Smurf, Smurfette, etc. - and their new neighbours from the Village of Girls.

The new series attracted the attention of foreign television stations, even production was completed. TF1 in France and the German children's channel Kika have already acquired the broadcasting rights, as has the American group Nickelodeon, which will broadcast it in 40 countries via its various pay platforms. Other national television stations, such as RAI, and streaming platforms like Netflix, have followed suit.
