The Smurfs to adorn Brussels Airlines' new special plane livery
The new special plane livery of Brussels Airlines will be completely decked out with Smurfs.
Earlier this year, the airline had launched a competition for selecting a new special design. From among the more than 1,400 submissions, the jury selected two finalists: a design around famous architect Victor Horta and Art Nouveau, and a design focusing on the equally famous Smurfs. Next, Brussels Airlines invited everyone to vote for his or her personal favourite over a period of 10 days. The Smurfs beat the Art Nouveau theme by miles.
The design by Marta Mascellani represents nine Smurfs as crew members and passengers against a black-yellow-red background. The artist also incorporated two Belgian icons into her design: the Atomium and the saxophone. 2018 will be a special year for The Smurfs as they celebrate their 60th anniversary.
Previously, Brussels Airlines had already inaugurated four ‘Belgian Icon’ planes sporting a Red Devils, Magritte, Tintin and Tomorrowland livery theme. The airline will reveal its fifth special plane livery in the spring of next year.
