Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela’s star continues to shine in France

15/02/2019

In March 2018, Focus magazine announced that the Belgian fashion god, Martin Margiela would be holding a major retrospective of his creations in the Paris museum Palais Galliera. Later the Musée des Arts décoratifs (Museum of Decorative Arts) also highlighted his period at Hermès, namely the twelve collections that he designed for this French fashion label between 1997 and 2003.

And apparently things just keep going for our talented, yet unconventional and rather mysterious compatriot. In 1989, he was the first to win the new and prestigious ANDAM Fashion Award, and now he may join the jury himself. The French ministry of Culture and Communication set up this award from the National Association for Development of the Fashion Arts (ANDAM) with an aim to support young designers. Illustrious names such as Viktor & Rolf, Jeremy Scott, Bruno Pieters, Bernhard Willhelm, Anthony Vaccarello and Glenn Martens all followed Martin Margiela in receiving an ANDAM accolade and taking home a valuable first prize.
