Glenn Martens, a designer to follow

15/03/2022

Glenn Martens has not finished making news. The busiest designer of the moment experienced huge success with his collection at Milan Fashion Week 2022.

This year, he has already presented the Y/Project autumn/winter collection, as well as a collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier. His show for Diesel was one of the most anticipated of this fashion week and was applauded by fashion moguls such as Tim Blanks, Stefano Tonchi and Renzo Rosso.

There is no doubt that the man who heads up Diesel and Y/Project is no longer a niche designer loved only by connoisseurs, but rather the first great designer of 2022.

For years, Y/Project was too experimental and eccentric to interest the general public. The same cannot be said of Diesel, whose catalogue has always consisted of timeless styles. Both brands are currently all the rage and everyone is witnessing what Martens can do. Being at the helm of two such different fashion houses is quite a challenge, and one that the Belgian designer seems to have no trouble meeting. The key to his success? The designer reinterprets the heritage of the fashion houses by relying on what he knows best - denim.

Now that the spotlight is on him, what does he have in store for us?

Keep an eye out, as the designer is hopeful that a new wire bag will become the next must-have.
