Five Belgian wines take prizes at world championship

01/06/2023

Belgian wines are a quality product, and this year, five different wines prove that point, having scored on the international scene.

The five winning wines (out of 25 Belgian wines in the world competition) come from vineyards spread all across the country.

So which Belgian wines, exactly, should you rush to the supermarket to purchase? Starting with the gold medals, these are the white wine Quatre cépages 2022 from the Entre-Deux Monts vineyard in Heuvelland (West Flanders) and Les notes rosées 2022 from Domaine du Chapitre in Nivelles (Walloon Brabant). As you can probably guess by the name, the latter is a rosé.

That’s the crème de la crème (or the vin du vin?), but there is plenty of honour in silver as well, though! Feast your tastebuds on Benjamin 2020, a red wine from the Wijnegem (Antwerp province) brewery Vigna. If you prefer the freshness of a white wine, why not opt for a Notes blanches 2021 of Vin de Liège? Add a little colour with the Ruffus Brut Rosé from the Vignoble des Agaises in Estinnes (Hainaut Province).

Who would have thought that a country known for its beer could surprise friend and foe with its viticulture? We’ll raise our glasses to that!
