07/03/2016

Solvay and the company Boeing are prolonging the contract which links them up until 2020 for the provision of adhesive material and structural composites designed to make large capacity airliners lighter.

The partnership is organised in the frame of programmes designed for the 737, 747 and 777, as well as current or future platforms, including the Boeing B787, 737MAX and 777X. The group specifies that the frame of the contract's prolongation will be specific productions and, more widely, high potential Solvay products which already exist or which are in development. In particular, Solvay manufactures products for primary and secondary structural applications, such as shutters, doors, fairing and wings.

In 2015, Solvay made a net profit of €406 million and a turnover of €10.6 billion. Thanks to the recent acquisition of Cytec (2015), the American specialist in composite materials for the aeronautical industry, Solvay is now recognised as the second manufacturer of composite materials for the aeronautical industry in the world.

The group's ’Composite Materials’ Global Business Unit supplies lighter materials produce with cutting-edge technologies, which enable aircraft manufacturers to reduce their fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and the duration of maintenance periods. It should also be recalled that with 250 applications, Solvay is in first place for European patent applications. It is the most active company in the country.
