Bombardier Bruges presents a prototype of the M7 double-deck train

09/02/2018

Good news for all train passengers and particularly for commuters! As from September 2018, the Belgian railway company (SNCB) will gradually start commissioning brand new M7 double-deck trains. Added comfort, capacity, safety and modernity are the greatest benefits of this new rolling stock.

When it comes to comfort, the seats should provide greater arm support and more leg room. First class carriages will even feature acoustic screens between the compartments. The number of seats will also be increased. The most modern safety systems will be installed and finally there will be a particular focus on communication and passenger information.

At the end of 2015, SNCB ordered 445 M7 carriages worth 1.3 billion euros at the Bombardier Rail Vehicles Production Site in Bruges. These will be delivered during the period September 2018 to December 2021. Bombardier Bruges is responsible for the electrical installations, tests and phased delivery.

The prototype of this new carriage was recently presented during a meeting at the Bombardier site, attended by people including the Minister of Mobility, François Bellot, and the Managing Director at SNCB, Sophie Dutordoir.
