Belgium wins 8 medals at the World Roller Speed Skating Championships
Belgium won eight medals at the World Roller Speed Skating Championships in Nanjing (China), namely 1 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals. The Ostend athlete Sandrine Tas won five of the medals and Indra Médard three (they both are members of the Zwaantjes Roller Club in Zandvoorde).
Sandrine Tas won a silver in the 20,000 metres elimination event, and four bronze medals, including in the 15,000 metres relay and the marathon. Two years ago, Tas won the gold medal in the marathon, but this time around, she had to let two Colombian athletes, Garzon and Viveros, go first.
Indra Médard left Nanjing with a gold medal in the 3,000 metres relay event, a silver medal in the 20,000 metres elimination and a bronze medal in the Junior Men 10,000 metres points elimination.
This year's World Roller Speed Skating Championships (World Roller Games) were held from 3 to 10 September 2017 in Nanjing, which calls itself the roller capital of the world. The Belgian inline speed skater Bart Swings did not participate this time as he is preparing for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in South Korea.
