Technology to help separated parents

The University of Antwerp has just launched the free KiT (Keep in Touch) application to help separated parents communicate.

According to data collected by the university, one in three married couples in Belgium will get divorced and almost 43% of ex-spouses will not talk to each other to take decisions about their children.

To solve this problem, researchers at the University of Antwerp have just launched a free application that works on both iOS and Android. This application contains a number of useful functions to ensure parents are more aware of important meetings and events relating to their children. According to the researchers: "There is a calendar where ex-partners and their children can make a note of meetings, for themselves or another family member. It provides a quick overview of information ranging from medical appointments to holiday arrangements and sporting competitions. It is also possible to share photos, which means that each family member can stay up-to-date with what is happening in the others' life."

The application, called KiT (for Keep in Touch), also contains check-list and chat functions and an information area dedicated to the practical aspects of the divorce. This information section can also be accessed by the children.

Parents have no need to worry about the use of their data, as conversations between parents on chat will of course remain confidential. Only data collected anonymously through questionnaires can be analysed for scientific purposes.

The application is now available in Dutch from the App Store and the Play Store.
