Third place for Belgium in the World Excel Championships

Joke Vranken from Belgium has come third in the World Excel Championships. This has been confirmed by the organiser and manufacturer Microsoft. This follows her success in taking the Belgium title back in November. A total of 700 Excel experts from 14 countries took part in the World Championships.

You might well be wondering exactly what is involved in an Excel world championship? Well, participants receive a file by mail that can only be opened at a particular moment. This file contains a task which they need to carry out and return as soon as it is finished. The solutions proposed by 31 year-old Joke Vranken from Ghent won her third place, immediately making her the best female Excel user in the world.

Our Belgian champion and the World's number three in Excel uses the software on a daily basis. Not only for her work: she calls it a hobby that got out of hand. Vranken is a specialist in data visualisation and boasts more than ten years of experience in Excel. Since becoming the Belgian champion she has been focused on the World Championships. Even to the extent that she cancelled a city trip with her husband. In hindsight she won't regret it, as she did herself - and our country - a great honour.
