World Para Athletics Championships: Maxime Carabin takes gold in the 100m and 400m
At the World Para Athletics Championships, the Belgian won the wheelchair race in both the 100-metre and 400-metre events, setting a new world record in the process.
Maxime Carabin first set a new European and championship record in 55.30 in the heats at Charléty stadium in Paris. In top form during the final, the Liege athlete not only won the race but also broke the world record with a time of 54.19, demolishing the previous record of 55.13 set by Japan's Tomoki Sato in 2018.
Maxime Carabin followed up with a time of 16.90 over 100m. This enabled him to win by over a second, ahead of Switzerland's Fabian Blum (17.98) and Mexico's Leonardo de Jesús Pérez (18.02). He approached the final with intense concentration to achieve his dream of a double. "I gave it my all, prepared better and the result followed," he explained at the end of the race.
Congratulations to this wheelchair sprinter on his two world championship titles!
