Class on the beam after a painful fall on the asymmetric bars
The 19-year-old gymnast from Sint-Truiden was considered the favourite in Minsk. Everyone was looking forward to her performance on her favourite piece of apparatus, the asymmetric bars. Yet it was here that she lost control and fell badly. The fall cost her a lot of points and also a place on the podium as a result.
Just when it all seemed lost for Nina Derwael, she rose to the challenge and demonstrated her talent on the beam. This proved to be her best performance to date, with a personal best of 13,766. Everything indicates that Nina Derwael is an athlete we will hear a lot about in the future. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games promise to be very exciting with a star like Nina Derwael in the Belgian team!
