Belgium wins European frisbee championship

17/08/2023

Belgium’s national frisbee squad – yes, you read that right – can now proudly call itself European champion.

After taking silver at the under-24 World Cup in Nottingham, the Belgians were out to get the most coveted medal of all at the European championships in Ireland.

It’s always a long way to the top, but following the group phase, the squad took flight in a 15-8 victory over Spain and then waltzed over Germany with a 15-10 win. Finally, Team Great Britain was waiting in the finals. This match was slightly closer, with the final score being 13-10, but Belgium showed its dominance.

It is widely known that Belgium has had a golden generation on its hands when it comes to football, but the same is now being said about our frisbee team.

Did you know that there are over thirty official Ultimate Frisbee clubs in Belgium? The sport is clearly a success here, and with the star quality the national team displayed at both European and World Championship levels, the future looks bright!
