Belgium rises in UEFA rankings

13/07/2023

The Belgian football competition has risen in the rankings of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for the 2023—24 season.

Jumping from eighth to fifth place, the Belgian Pro League is ranked higher than its Northern neighbours’ Eredivisie, the French Ligue 1, and even the Liga Portugal. The Turkish and Swiss competitions complete the top 10.

The ranking takes into account how well clubs did at a European level, and teams like Club Brugge, RSC Anderlecht. Racing Genk and Union Saint-Gilloise were able to distinguish themselves internationally in the past few years.

What’s more, the Belgian pitches feature Belgian talent. The Red Devils’ manager Domenico Tedesco has said that there are a lot of Pro League players among his extended selection, and his predecessor Roberto Martinez had a lot of Pro League players debut as well.

These facts speak volumes about the talent coming out of Belgium, where football is one of the biggest sports in the country if not the biggest.
