Wouter de Backer, better known as Gotye, is a Belgian-Australian singer-songwriter.

Born in Bruges in 1980, he moved to Australia when he was 2 years old. His first single, taken from the album Like Drawing Blood which was awarded a gold disk, was released in August 2006 and was also a success. On 5 August 2011, from the album Making Mirrors, the single Somebody that I used to Know, was released as a duet with the New Zealand singer Kimbra. He reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with this song. The song won Recording of the Year at the 55th Grammy awards on 10 February 2013. The award was presented to Gotye by Prince.
