. Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens has regained her world number 1 doubles ranking following her victory at the WTA tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Elise Mertens has just won the WTA 1000 tennis tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, with her Australian partner Storm Hunter. In the final, the Belgian-Australian pair overcame Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealander Erin Routliffe in a three-set match (3-6, 6-2, 10-4) lasting 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Guadalajara was Elise Mertens' 30th WTA doubles final. The Belgian now has 18 doubles titles to her name, the latest of which came in Rome in a WTA 100 tournament with the same Australian partner.

"Obviously it's always very nice," the native of Leuven (Flemish Brabant province) told the Belga agency after her victory. "It's proof that I've had a great year with my new partner, with whom I've teamed up very regularly. It also means that my doubles level is still excellent and that I'm one of the best players in the world."

This victory means that Elise Mertens regains her position as world number 1 in doubles, having already topped the rankings in May 2021 and June 2022. Storm Hunter, her Australian partner, rises to second place.

We should also mention the excellent performance of the young Greet Minnen, who reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 tournament in Guangzhou, China, and climbed to 63rd place in the new world singles rankings.
