The young Belgian actress won the award for Best Acting Performance for her role in "Holly", the latest film by Belgian director Fien Troch.

Cathalina Geeraerts, lead actress in the Belgian film "Holly", has just won the Best Acting Performance award at the 80th Venice Film Festival.

The 17-year-old actress plays the lead role in the film "Holly", directed by Belgian Fien Troch. She plays a 15-year-old navigating a world that combines the human psyche and the absurdity of everyday life. In this humorous atmosphere, the young actress finds herself at the heart of the expectations of a community in mourning following the realisation of a deadly premonition.

"Cathalina embodies her character with modesty, encouraging us to see her not as a child, but as a great actress," said the jury of independent film critics.

Fien Troch's fifth feature film, "Holly" was very well received at its first screening at the Venice Film Festival and received excellent reviews from the international press. For the record, the 45-year-old Belgian director won the Orizzonti Award for Best Director for her film "Home" at the 2016 Venice International Film Festival.

Congratulations to this very young and promising actress who has won an award at the world's oldest film festival!
