Two Belgian universities in top 100 ranking

17/08/2023

The universities of Ghent and Leuven are among the 100 best in the world according to the so-called Shanghai Ranking.

The Shanghai Ranking, also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities, factors in Nobel Prize and Field Medal-winning alumni and staff, the number of highly cited researchers, and per capita performance among others.

Ranking the two very close together, Shanghai considers Ghent to be the top university in our country, coming in at place number 84. KU Leuven trails just two spots behind at 86.

The third best Belgian university is the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), with a spot somewhere between 101 and 150.

Leuven’s position is similar to Quacquarelli Symonds’ judgement earlier this year, where it rose to 61st place.

Congratulations to all Belgian universities (not only Ghent and Leuven) as they get recognised for their formidable efforts and scientific prowess.
