The European Union Baroque Orchestra takes root in Antwerp

27/02/2017

Belgium will soon gain another talented orchestra. In May, the famous "European Union Baroque Orchestra" (EUBO) is moving permanently from Oxfordshire to Antwerp. Among others, the orchestra supports young baroque musicians with their transition from studying at music academies to the professional music world.

The orchestra is an initiative of the European Union and is made up of musicians from fourteen different European countries. By participating in the choir, the young musicians can gain more experience. By collaborating with some of the leading musicians from the baroque world, for example. The choir is renowned for its vitality and youthfulness, while its technical skills are equal to those of more experienced music groups.

The "European Union Baroque Orchestra" has been offering this type of opportunities to young musicians since 1985. In order to reach as many young people as possible, the choir staff changed around entirely every year. The baroque group is currently still located in Oxfordshire. On 19 May, the choir will perform its last concert in London, after which it will permanently take root in Antwerp. The director of the youth choir, Emma Wilkinson, has indicated that the possible consequences of Brexit played a role in the move.
