The ATP 250 tournament held in Eastbourne, a major seaside resort in East Sussex on England’s south coast, proved to be a successful one for Bergs. His third ATP final was finally the right one. At the age of 27, he becomes the fifth Belgian man to win an ATP Tour title, joining David Goffin (6 titles), Xavier Malisse (3), Steve Darcis (2) and Olivier Rochus (1).

In the final, the Lommel native (in the province of Limburg) defeated France’s Ugo Humbert (ATP No. 30) by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

“I’m very happy to win this first title,” the Belgian told tournament organizers. “It was very tense at the end. It started creeping into my mind. But I’ve worked hard enough on the mental side of my game to know what to do in those moments. I’m glad I managed the situation well and was able to finish with a comfortable final game.”

A wonderful victory on the eve of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament!
