Wout van Aert has shown once again that he is a top-tier rider by winning the Tour of Denmark.
The Belgian cyclist, who had missed out on the Tour de France due to an injury, established his dominance early on in his comeback race, winning the first three out of five stages. It’s his second time winning the Tour of Denmark, a stunt he first pulled in 2018. It’s rare for van Aert to win the general classification in a stage race, because he’s usually riding in service of the likes of Jonas Vingegaard. For that reason, this victory means a lot to him.
The Tour of Denmark seems to be fertile ground for Belgians. Four out of the last ten editions have been won by our country: Wout, as mentioned above (2018), double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel (2021), former Belgian national champion Arnaud De Lie (2024) and now Wout again.
Wout van Aert is truly an all-rounder. He can beat the competition in a sprint, he can win a time trial, and he’s good in the mountains as well. A great example of Belgium’s cycling prowess.
