Women's rugby: the BelSevens finish third in Uruguay
The Belgian national team finished third in the Women's Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in Montevideo, Uruguay.
At this international competition, Belgium won its three group matches against Papua New Guinea (37-5), Hong Kong (24-5) and Kenya (21-5). The Belgian players then beat Thailand in the quarter-finals (17-5) to reach the last four.
The BelSevens were soundly defeated by Argentina, 35-5.
They then beat Uganda 24-12 in the bronze-medal play-off. This is an improvement on the first Challenger Series held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, last January, when they finished in fifth place.
A third Challenger Series tournament is scheduled to take place in Krakow, Poland, on 18 and 19 May.
At the end of these three tournaments, the top four teams will qualify for the final promotion/relegation tournament in Madrid, Spain, from 31 May to 2 June, with the hope of qualifying for the World Series.
Could this feat be within the BelSevens' grasp?
