The unrivalled time trial king

02/10/2025

Time trial sensation Remco Evenepoel has cemented his reputation as the greatest of all time with his victory in the European championships.

Olympic gold ; Belgian gold ; World gold. And now European gold. All in the span of barely a year and a half. Nobody has ever done better than Remco Evenepoel in the discipline known as the race of truth, just one man or woman against the clock.

The strongest competition came from the Brit Joshua Tarling and the Italian Filippo Ganna, but it became clear early on that the short aerodynamic phenomenon from Schepdaal, Belgium, was floating like a butterfly, his stature allowing him to be far less impacted by the wind than his much taller competitors. And then he stung like a bee. Where at the world championships in Kigali he overtook the Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, he did the same at the European championships to the also gifted time triallist Stefan Küng, who started a minute before him.

Remco Evenepoel seems to be unstoppable in the race against the clock, and we are here for it.

While we’re at it, we wanted to also highlight the gold and silver medals for Belgium in the same discipline in the under-23 category, with formidable exploits by silver medallist Matisse Van Kerckhove and the winner, Jonathan Vervenne.

It seems Belgium really is world-class in this discipline!
