Thierry Neuville wins Acropolis Rally 2022
Belgian Thierry Neuville won the tenth round of the 2022 World Rally Championship in Greece and is now third in the overall classification.
His last victory in the WRC (World Rally Championship) was at the Rally Catalunya last October, so this success on the Greek roads has reassured Thierry Neuville about his impressive abilities.
On the first day of the race, the Belgian set the fastest time in the opening Super Special Stage in the Olympic Stadium in Athens, which was packed with 60,000 spectators. He then managed the challenges of the Acropolis Rally programme perfectly over the next three days to keep his leadership position until the end.
His two teammates, Estonia's Ott Tänak (+15.0 seconds) and Spain's Dani Sordo (+1:49.7), completed the podium, which also gave the South Korean team of Hyundai its first ever hat-trick of wins.
While there are only three rallies left to be contested this year, Thierry Neuville goes up to third place in the general driver classification, with 131 points. Finland's Kalle Rovanperä remains in the lead with 207 points, followed by Estonia's Ott Tänak (154 points).
The Belgian driver knows that there are still 90 points to be distributed, mathematically, and can still dream of this year's world title.
