Tennis: Belgium’s next generation is on the rise with Blockx and Collignon
On the clay courts of Paris, new Belgian tennis figures are taking their first steps in a Grand Slam tournament.

After a decade marked by the achievements of David Goffin and the recent emergence of Zizou Bergs, Belgian men’s tennis appears to have found new momentum. Behind these already well-established names on the circuit, a promising generation is beginning to make its presence felt. Among them, two names are increasingly coming to the fore: Alexander Blockx and Raphaël Collignon.
At just 21 years old, Alexander Blockx is undoubtedly the most high-profile face of this new wave. The young Antwerp native came to the public’s attention by winning the Australian Open juniors in 2023—an outstanding success that propelled him among the top prospects in world tennis. Equipped with a complete game and strong tactical maturity, Blockx impresses with his ability to dictate rallies from the baseline while maintaining great composure at key moments. Since turning professional, he has gradually gained experience on the circuit and is already ranked 37th in the ATP standings.
Alongside him, 24-year-old Raphaël Collignon is following a different but equally promising path. Less exposed in the media, the player from Liège has stood out through steady progress built on consistency and hard work. Collignon has developed a reputation as a fighter, capable of adapting to all surfaces and delivering solid performances in Futures and Challenger tournaments, and is currently a strong world No. 62.
These young talents are emerging in a favorable context, as Zizou Bergs has firmly established himself in the world top 50 in recent years, acting as a bridge between the old and new generations through his boundless energy and steady improvement.
