Taekwondo: Sarah Chaari Claims a Third European Title
After her world crown in 2025, the young Belgian has seized the European title and confirmed that she truly is the world’s number one in taekwondo.

Sarah Chaari continues to make history for Belgian taekwondo. At 21, the athlete from Charleroi won her third European championship title on Wednesday in Munich, following her victories in 2023 and 2024—this time in the -73 kg category, her third different weight class.
Facing Turkey’s Uzuncavdar, the world No. 2, in the final, the Belgian showed solidity and experience, securing the win after two well‑controlled rounds (2–1, 3–3). A victory that confirms her consistency at the highest level, just months after her world title in 2025.
As world No. 1, Chaari was automatically qualified for the quarterfinals. After a tight start against Slovenia’s Rudolph, she quickly took control (6–2, 10–1). In the semifinals, she then dominated France’s Wiet‑Hénin—an experienced and decorated opponent—after an intense match (6–2, 8–3).
Only the Olympic gold medal is still missing from her incredible list of achievements.
