The Belgian swimmer won the 7.5km race in the 16-17 years age category at the European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.

The European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships were created in 2003 under the aegis of European Aquatics. The city of Vienna hosted this year's international swimming competition.

In the 7.5km race, the teenager Sarah Dumont won in 1:34:12.85, just 64 hundredths of a second ahead of Hungary's Napsugar Nagy. Spain's Clara Martinez de Salinas completed the podium, 1.58 seconds behind the 17-year-old Belgian.

This year, the young swimmer from Namur had already been crowned European champion in the 200m butterfly and was a triple medallist at the European Junior Swimming Championships held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The younger sister of Valentine, who, at 4 years older than Sarah, has already won an international medal, finishing third in the 400-metre freestyle at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in 2023, Sarah Dumont has been immersed in the world of swimming ever since she was a child.

Her family environment favours sporting progress, enabling her to dream of a successful career in the senior ranks, with her main objective being to take part in the 2028 Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles.
