Rider Thibeau Spits is world number one

In the under-25 category, this Belgian rider dominates international show jumping competitions.

After Justin Verboomen in dressage, Belgium is fortunate to see another of its representatives reach the top of the world rankings.

The second child of Patrik Spits and Kristel Ceulemans, Thibeau grew up in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, north of Mechelen, at the heart of the family business founded by his maternal grandfather, Jos Ceulemans. His father, Patrik, is a professional rider who trains and promotes the horses bred by the family. In this horse-centered environment, young Thibeau initially found his passion elsewhere—in football. But he quickly took up the reins, setting out on a sporting path full of obstacles.

At 24, already crowned with five European titles, Thibeau Spits now stands out as one of the most promising young riders of his generation.

After moving up to the senior level last year, he immediately contributed to securing the team European title. He has since maintained this momentum, achieving strong results in the most prestigious competitions, including a third place in Geneva, a second in ’s-Hertogenbosch, a fifth in Paris, and a victory in the five-star Grand Prix of Fontainebleau in recent months.

These excellent results are also largely due to his eleven-year-old horse, Impress. Together with his remarkable mount, he is now preparing for the World Championships, which will take place in August.

His next major goal will be to secure an Olympic qualification spot!
