Red Dragons achieve historical result in world cup

09/10/2025

The Red Dragons, Belgium’s national men’s volleyball team, have achieved their best result in half a century at the recent World Cup in Manila, The Philippines.

It was ten days of good vibes and good performances by our country’s volleyballing elite, up against some of the best players in the world, including Italy, the reigning world champions. Belgium finished first in the group phase, winning every match in three sets, facing off against Ukraine, Algeria and, as we mentioned before, Italy. It was the kind of match you look to with fear and trembling as a fan, and even our Dragons couldn’t quite believe it when they beat the fearsome Italian squadra in five sets.

Belgium then went on to beat Finland in the 1/8 finals, winning every set (25-21, 25-17, 25-21), making it to the quarter finals, an already epic achievement. And who should be waiting there but Italy, thirsty for revenge. The past and future world champions brought a better game against our compatriots in that match, but how proud can we be of this Belgian team, huh?

Our Dragons left the tournament a little disappointed (as you do), but with high spirits, encouraged for what the future has to offer. Here’s to them!
