A patch of Belgium at the World Cup
If there’s one thing we Belgians are passionate about, it’s football, so it’s only logical that a Belgian company would share its expertise to ensure the upcoming world cup games are played on a perfect grass mat.
The dates are set, the teams have qualified, the Belgian Red Devils will face off against some of the (other) greatest football nations in the world. The arenas have been selected. But wait, who’s taking care of the grass?
Grassmax, a company from Zele in East Flanders, has been hired to ensure the high standard of hybrid grass technology required by FIFA, the international football federation. They will see to it that the stadiums in Dallas and Houston (USA) and Mexico City (Mexico) have top-notch pitches with strong grass that can endure the heavy use that comes with a World Cup. The grass of the stadium in Arlington, Texas – the largest where the gladiators will fight for glory – is also in fine Belgian hands, those of KRC Genk terrain manager Eddy Van Endert.
Belgium can be proud of its expertise in this area. A selection just as fine as Rudi Garcia’s troops who will defend our national colours, starting on 15 June against Egypt, 21 June against Iran, and 27 June against New Zealand.
We already know in which stadium the best grass will be. Now we’re ready to find out which country will get to call itself world champion for the next four years. Let the games begin!
