On 28 May, Nafissatou Thiam won the prestigious 43rd Götzis heptathlon in Austria. With a new national record, which is also the 8th best in history, the Rio Olympic Champion exceeded 7,000 points, setting the Belgian record at 7,013 points. At only 22 years of age, she therefore becomes the third best athlete of all time, behind the American Jackie Joyner-Kersee (7,291 points in 1988) and the Swede Karolina Klüft (7,032 points in 2007).

And the Heptathlon champion didn't stop there as she also won another record for Belgium in the Javelin throw (59.32m) by breaking Melissa Dupré's record (58.51m).

Results that follow her extraordinary jump of 1.98m and her two personal records in the 100m hurdles (13.34) and 200m (24.40).

Just over a week after her achievement at Götzis, Nafissatou Thiam also announced that she was becoming a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Belgium, the United Nations Children's Fund. By taking over this role from Justine Henin, she joins singer Axelle Red, former Miss Belgium Tatiana Silva, Flemish TV personality Tom Waes and singer Helmut Lotti.
