NAFI THIAM TAKES SILVER IN DOHA

04/10/2019

The 17th edition of the World Athletics Championships with, in order, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Nafissatou Thiam and Verena Preiner, brings us an all-European women's top 3.

After a "very good first day", the young athlete from Namur continued her great efforts by giving the best of herself on the second day. But despite her legendary determination, she was hampered by a long-standing elbow injury during the 6th event, the javelin throw, which even prevented her from taking all three throws.  For the honour, and out of respect for her opponents, Nafi Thiam did, however, appear at the start of the 800m.

The young sportswoman finished second on 6,677 points, 304 points behind Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson (6,981), securing a 7th medal for Belgium in its history.

Nafissatou Thiam has won a string of victories: first at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, then at the 2017 World Championships and the 2018 European Athletics Championships. She even achieved the best performance in the world this year.

After a well-deserved holiday to recharge her batteries, the young prodigy will actively prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, for which we wish her every success!
