Kim Meylemans takes her first Skeleton World Cup victory
Belgium gained its first winner in an international competition on the track in Altenberg, Germany.
Skeleton is an individual winter sport which, like bobsleigh and luge, is practised in a narrow, downhill ice track. The skeleton slider lies on a board resembling a luge, but unlike the racing luge, they must lie flat on their stomach, head first. The aim, of course, is to get down the track as quickly as possible in a time trial.
At Altenberg, a winter sports resort in Germany's Ore Mountains, Belgian Kim Meylemans has just achieved the greatest feat of her career. In difficult weather conditions, with the competition having been postponed for several hours due to heavy snowfall, she triumphed in a World Cup event at the age of 28. Earlier this year, the athlete from Limburg finished second in Sigulda, Latvia, and won the gold medal at the European championships.
Congratulations to our Belgian skeleton slider!
