Justine Ghekiere, queen of the mountains in the Tour de France

20/08/2024

Belgian cyclist Justine Ghekiere outclassed all the ladies in the mountains in the Tour de France Femmes.

It’s a big year for Justine Ghekiere, a 28-year-old cyclist from Izegem in the province of West Flanders.

Ghekiere, who turned pro in 2021, made her Tour de France debut this year and delivered an impressive performance in which she took the polka-dot jersey (designating the best rider in the mountains) on stage 6 and held on to it until the end.

Justine consolidated her jersey in stage 7, and not only that: she has a stage win to her name. The young Belgian rid herself of the breakaway and finished with more than a minute’s lead on the next rider.

A fantastic achievement, especially when paired with the fact that she was also queen of the mountains in this year’s Giro d’Italia. Oh, and did you know that fellow Belgian Lotte Kopecky took home the points jersey and second place in that Giro?

A fine performance by a fine Belgian cyclist. Well done, Justine!
