Lucas Henveaux from Liège took third place in the 200m freestyle, giving Belgium its third medal in the history of the competition.

Lucas Henveaux achieved a real feat by winning his second international medal, just one year after finishing third in the 400m freestyle at the European Swimming Championships in Otopeni, Romania.

In the short course competition in Budapest, Hungary, the Belgian swam the final in 1:41.13, improving his Belgian record over the distance, to finish an amazing third. He was only beaten by American Luke Hobson, who set a new world record in 1:38.61, and Australian Maximillian Giuliani, who finished second in 1:40.36.

The 24-year-old swimmer from Crisnée (Liège province) joins Stefaan Maene (3rd in the 200m backstroke in 1993) and Fanny Lecluyse (3rd in the 200m breaststroke in 2018), the only other two Belgian medallists in the history of this competition.

Lucas Henveaux can now focus on the next Long Course World Championships in Singapore with the hope of another medal.
