Nele and Tinne Gilis won silver and bronze respectively at the European Squash Championships in Prague. During the semi-finals the two sisters competed against each other to secure a place in the final.

After they both easily won their first matches at the European Championships, sisters Nele and Tinne Gilis faced each other for the first time at a major tournament. In the end, it was Nele, one year Tinne’s senior, who won after three short sets and made it into the final. There she had to admit defeat to French top player Camille Serme, who became the European Champion for the fourth year in a row. In the fight for bronze Tinne Gilis did gain the upper hand. She defeated the German Sina Wall in five gruelling sets and earned herself the third podium spot.

The Gilis sisters have been dominating Belgian squash for several years now. Even though Nele is just 20 years old, she has already made quite an impression with the professionals. This year she won the Paderborn Open, which pushed her to 44th place in the PSA ranking. 19-year old Tinne Gilis won her first Belgian senior title, reached the third round of the World Junior Championships and in doing so broke into the top 100 of the PSA ranking for the first time.
