Fourth place for the Belgian team at the 2017 European Volleyball Championship

11/09/2017

At the 2017 European Volleyball Championship organised recently in Krakow, the Belgian team came fourth, a first for our Red Dragons!

Indeed, during the final of the 2017 European Championship, Vital Heynen's national team created a stir by beating Italy, one of the main favourites of the tournament and vice-champion at Katowice. Thus, our Belgian players won fourth place behind the Russians, the Germans and the Serbians.

An affair to be followed closely since, to our great surprise and for the very first time, 24 countries will take part in the final round of the 2019 Men's European Volleyball Championship and Belgium, along with three other countries, will be in charge of its organisation. The tournament will be held from 13 September to 29 September 2019 in France, the Netherlands, Slovenia and, here, in Antwerp and Brussels. Each organising country will host a pool of six teams and will organise one play-off match and one quarter final.

Geert De Dobbeleer, the Director-General of TopVolley Belgium, expressed his satisfaction and highlighted that it was Belgium's second candidature as a host country to have been accepted by the CEV (European Volleyball Confederation), with the first concerning the 2015 Women's European Volleyball Championship.
