The finest performance by a Belgian golfer on the American circuit
Never before has a Belgian player achieved such a feat. Thomas Detry finished a remarkable second at the Houston Open on the US PGA Tour.

Detry finished the Houston Open on the US PGA Tour just one shot behind the winner, Germany's Stephan Jaeger.
The Brussels-born player was still co-leader heading into the final round, but in the end, he had to settle for second place, finishing tied with other players including the world number one, American Scottie Scheffler.
Although he has every right to be disappointed that he couldn't complete his bid to become the first Belgian golfer to win a trophy on the American tour, Thomas Detry can be proud of his performance on the greens of the demanding Memorial Park GC.
Showing great consistency, he closed the tournament at 11 under par. It was just on the 14th hole that he made his only bogey of the day, missing a putt from less than 2 metres.
This is the ninth time in his career that the Belgian has finished second in a professional tournament on the DP World Tour or PGA Tour. This latest outstanding performance not only earns him a handsome cheque for $553,000 (€513,000), but also moves him up to 27th in the FedEx Cup standings and 65th in the world rankings.
Let's hope that his achievement on American soil will give him the confidence he needs for the rest of the season, with a good chance of winning his first major trophy.
