Evenepoel’s historical first Tour de France
Remco Evenepoel has shown once again that Belgians know how to ride bicycles, making the Tour’s annals a little more black, yellow and red.
R. Ev, the Aero Bullet, El Fenómeno, the Little Cannibal (a wink to the Cannibal, Eddy Merckx), call him what you want, Remco Evenepoel is dominant and he showed himself in his very first Tour de France.
The Short one from Schepdaal (yet another nickname) rode with verve, guts and creativity and managed to secure a podium spot. While Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard took first and second place, Remco was an impressive 10 minutes ahead of Jao Almeida, making it the first time a Belgian has graced the Tour podium since 2010.
More impressively, he is the first Belgian ever to finish in the white jersey, which is awarded to the best young rider (for those turning 25 in the year of the tour and younger). He is now part of a prestigious list that includes legends like Greg LeMond, Laurent Fignon, Jan Ullrich, Marco Pantani and Alberto Contador.
Evenepoel secured the jersey on day 2 and never let go, proving at every stage that he can keep up with the best of them.
Fellow Belgian cyclists Jasper Philipsen and Victor Campenaerts have also won stages in this year’s Tour.

Congratulations, Remco, you’ve made us proud!
