He entered the race four times, he won it four times: Remco Evenepoel is now the sole record holder for most Clásica San Sebastián wins.

He came, he saw, he conquered the Basque Country. Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel had equaled the record of Marino Lejaretta (which had stood since the 1980s) by winning the race in 2019, 2022 and 2023, and he fulfilled his role as the favourite for the win, defeating Richard Carapaz in a sprint. Carapaz was the only rider who could follow Evenepoel’s acceleration on the final climb of the race, but he didn’t stand a chance to try to beat the Belgian to the finish line.
The road to the finish wasn’t easy, though. The Aero Bullet, as he’s known, suffered a flat tyre and had to chase for 20 kilometres before being able to rejoin the leaders of the race.
The second-best Belgian, Quinten Hermans, crossed the line in 11th place, 29 seconds slower than his compatriot. Ramses Debruyne and Evenepoel’s teammate Maxim Van Gils were 58 seconds behind Evenepoel in 20th and 21st place.
Remco is fresh off his second-place finish in this year’s Tour de France (one place better than his Tour finish in 2024), showing again and again why he belongs to the best cyclists in the world.
