For the second time in her career, Elise Mertens has won the WTA Finals doubles title.

The WTA Finals, a professional tennis tournament that brings together the best players of the year at the end of each season, was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

After a two-week tournament, Elise Mertens (WTA D-7) and her partner Veronika Kudermetova (WTA D-10) reached the final and defeated Timea Babos of Hungary (WTA D-15) and Luisa Stefani of Brazil (WTA D-16) in two sets, 7-6 (7/4) and 6-1, in a match that lasted 1 hour and 39 minutes. For the Limburg native, this is her seventh consecutive Masters title and her third final. In 2022, already partnered with Kudermetova, they won the tournament against Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova, who were the defending champions at the time.

"It's incredible that we were able to win the title," the 29-year-old Belgian player told the Belga news agency after her victory. "I'm very happy with the level of play we managed to display over these two weeks. We started with a loss, but we bounced back remarkably well afterwards. It's been a good year. I'm back up to 20th in singles, with two titles. And in doubles, it's been great to start a new partnership with Veronika so well mid-season. There was the final in Rome, the victory at Wimbledon." And this is clearly the icing on the cake. Because it's a fabulous tournament!

With this ultimate title to her name, Elise Mertens can now take a well-deserved rest with her family and friends in Belgium to prepare for the new season!
