Bronze medal at the World Para Swimming Championships

On her first appearance, the young Belgian swimmer Tatyana Lebrun won an excellent third place in the 100 metres breaststroke.

The World Para Swimming Championships were held in Madeira, Portugal. And the best surprise came from Tatyana Lebrun, a young swimmer from Stavelot (in the province of Liège).

Already in great shape during the World Series in Lignano and Berlin, where she had beaten her benchmark times no fewer than five times on different distances and specialities, she arrived full of confidence for these World Championships. In her favourite discipline, the 100 m breaststroke, the young Belgian smashed her personal best in the qualifying heats with a time of 1:18.45. After reaching the final, she won a magnificent bronze medal on the world stage, behind the Dutch swimmer Lisa Kruger and the Australian Keira Stephens, with a time of 1:18.90.

This is the first Belgian para swimming medal since the 2017 World Championships, where Aymeric Parmentier, Yannick Vandeput and Céline Deleuze each won a bronze medal.

While she still has plenty of room for progression, this result appears very encouraging looking forward to the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
