Belgium’s squad is ready for the World Cup

The Belgian Red Devils have landed in the United States to begin another World Cup adventure.

Another football World Cup, another chance to make history. It is Belgium’s 15th World Cup appearance and the fourth in a row since Marc Wilmots conjured up the hellfire of a golden generation of football stars.

The legendary players from this golden generation, such as Thibaut Courtois, Thomas Meunier, Kevin De Bruyne, Axel Witsel, and Romelu Lukaku, are now leading by example for a fresh group of young, enthusiastic and talented players.

If the warm-up friendly matches in the weeks before the tournament were anything to go by, Belgium is sure to get far. They secured a 2-0 win over Croatia (the runners-up in the 2018 World Cup), and humbled Tunisia with five goals and a clean sheet to get the juices flowing.

The win against Tunisia is positive not only for the team spirit: it could be telling for how Belgium fares in the first round, as Tunisia was chosen because they are comparable to Egypt, the Red Devils’ first adversary. They will also face off against Iran and New Zealand in the group phase.

Here’s hoping they finish first in their group and go a long way. Perhaps they can even equal their 2018 result (third place overall) or, who knows, do even better. We can dream, right? In football, anything can happen.

Go, Belgium, go!
